Excessive tail slack creates tail wandering. This often tears the tail, causes re-threading and lost production. Tail wandering may also create the need to use additional operating personnel to protect tails from hitting objects during threading. What Causes Tail Wandering? Tail wandering results from an excessive difference in dryer surface speed and rope speed. The rope speed is slower than sheet speed. Therefore, the threading rope speed becomes too slow for sheet speed, thus, a wandering or drifting tail results.
